Anti-social behaviour (ASB)
ASB covers a wide range of unacceptable activity that causes harm to an individual, to their community or to their environment. This could be an action by someone else that leaves you feeling alarmed, harassed or distressed.
Immediate Danger: If there is immediate danger to people or property, or a crime is in progress, please contact the police first on 999. For non-emergencies, call 101.
Persistent loud music, shouting, or banging.
Verbal abuse, intimidation, or threats.
Damage to property or graffiti.
Drug use, dealing, or dangerous behaviour.
Noise and neighbour disputes
Everyday living noise (like footsteps, washing machines, or children playing) is not usually considered ASB. However, persistent and unreasonable noise can be. If you are experiencing issues with a neighbour, follow these steps:
Keep a record
Log the dates, times, and details of the incidents using a diary sheet.
Speak to them
If you feel safe doing so, politely let your neighbour know how their behaviour is affecting you.
Report it
Your council's environmental health team can investigate noise nuisance. Report it to your council, or contact WHT using the form below.

We will review your report, discuss it with you confidentially, and advise on next steps.
When environmental health can help
Environmental health deals with noise that counts as a statutory nuisance, such as persistent loud music, machinery, or alarms.
- investigate your complaint
- monitor the noise, often with recording equipment
- serve a legal notice on the person responsible
If we are not able to resolve your case, we will direct you to environmental health and support your report where we can.
